Release 10.1A: OpenEdge Application Server:
Administration
Progress Explorer
The Progress Explorer is a graphical administration utility that operates as a plug-in to the Microsoft Management Console (MMC). The Progress Explorer combines the functionality of all the command-line utilities with the ability to create, save modifications to, and delete individual WebSpeed Transaction Servers, NameServers, DataServers, AppServers, BrokerConnect, Web Services, and databases. You can also use the Progress Explorer to configure WebSpeed Messengers, start additional WebSpeed agents, or trim back running WebSpeed agents.
When you start the Progress Explorer, the following window appears:
![]()
The interface includes a menu bar and two distinct frames. The left frame presents a tree view that might include WebSpeed Transaction Servers, WebSpeed Messengers, NameServers, AppServers, DataServers, and OpenEdge databases. Expanding any of the folders under an AdminService shows a list of all configured instances of that component. With a component selected, you can create new instances (except WebSpeed Messengers) by choosing Action
New. With a component instance selected, you can start, stop, configure, get status views, and read the log files for that instance.
When you install WebSpeed, a sample WebSpeed Transaction Server (
wsbroker1) and a sample NameServer (NS1) are installed automatically. You administer each product instance through a tabbed property sheet, which appears in the right frame. You use the tabs to configure or modify all the properties for a specific instance. A toolbar is also available, enabling you to start, save, delete, check the status of, or stop a WebSpeed broker or NameServer instance.
